KCALL met at Shook, Hardy & Bacon for a soup, sandwich and salad bar along with desserts. Special guest, Katie Stover from the Kansas City Public Library, led a discussion of the Dust Bowl as documented by Timothy Egan within his book, “The Worst Hard Time.” Future KCALL events were introduced and a tour of the main library followed.
Donations were gathered for the Spofford Home Back-to-School Wish List.
Print copies, audiobooks and e-book instructions for the KCALL Big Read were provided. We will explore “The Worst Hard Time” by Timothy Egan at the next meeting.
During KCALL’s holiday party, funds were raised for a donation to ReStart, an organization with the goal to end homelessness in Kansas City. On June 1st, members toured the facility and explored the supportive services that move individuals and families toward self-sufficiency. It was an excellent glimpse into the priorities and successes of this local non-profit.
The evening concluded with dinner and conversation at Garozzo’s Ristorante.
A large group attended KCALL’s Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Lathrop & Gage. Lunch was catered by Californo’s to include vegetarian or meaty enchiladas, salad, beans and rice, with a dessert tray.
At noon the business meeting started. It was followed by our round table session about emerging issues in law libraries. Many thanks to Tammy Bearden for leading an engaging discussion.
Book and genre suggestions were collected for our upcoming KCALL Big Read. In October, our member meeting program will include a book discussion with Katie Stover from the Kansas City Public Library.

Newly elected President, Meg Martin, introduced her agenda and sought feedback on programs and activities for the year ahead.
This meeting was held at the Leon E. Bloch Library, within the Tech Classroom (007E) located on the ground floor library space. Drinks and desserts were provided.
